Overview
For Elon University's 3rd annual Gala Latina, an event celebrating Latinx/Hispanic student success, they began the new tradition of giving pins to first-year Latinx/Hispanic identifying students to welcome them to the community.
Design
I created the pins and the program around the monarch butterfly. The monarch butterfly signifies migration and adapting to changing environments. It is said that the monarch butterfly carries the spirits of the departed. This belief stems from the fact that the first monarchs arrived in Mexico for the winter season on November 1st, which coincides with Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Dia de Los Muertos is a Mexican holiday celebrating the memories of loved ones that have passed.
